Brain Drain in India
Brain Drain refers to the situation when highly qualified
people leave a country to settle in some other country. It has become a major
concern for developing countries such as India, which has become the second –
largest exporter of academically well qualified people. Brain Drain is a bane
for India as it has been losing its major skilled workforce which includes
doctors, engineers, researchers and scientists.
Most of the well
qualified people tend to go abroad for higher studies, for satisfaction and
glory in their respective fields of expertise. This is because India is still struggling
to recover from the decline it faced during British Rule and cannot offer
assurance of a good job to so many accomplished and ambitious people. The lack
of research facilities and modern equipment in India has also led to massive
brain drain to other countries abroad majorly being the U.S.A and European
Union.
Indian people have a
lot of potential and India is currently termed as the world’s youngest nation.
Bill Gates revealed to the times of India that more than 1/5th of
the people working in Microsoft are Indian and he also said that if he didn’t
hire Indian engineers then there will be another Microsoft in India. But if
India is not able to offer good opportunities to young and dynamic people then
it will be a big loss for the country. According to studies very less people
return back to India after completing studies because of the failing economy
and less opportunities. Brain Drain may be a boon for developed countries but
is surely a bane for under-developed countries such as India.
It is a good thing to
study abroad because people gain a lot of exposure to different work and study
cultures which helps a person when he comes back to his home country. But
people don’t come back at all. Highly graduated Indians should think about
their motherland because 80% Indians are poor and it is their duty to educate
these people and take them ahead instead of rushing for alluring paychecks
offered by companies abroad. There may be problems but patriotism and respect
towards the country by individuals could help India regain its past glory.
